Our Strategic Plan

In early summer 2022, the Greenon Local School District Board of Education, Superintendent Darrin Knapke, Treasurer Garth Whitaker and other district administrators (the “design group”) began an initiative to move forward with a new strategic plan. The district called upon the services of the Ohio School Boards Association (OSBA) to facilitate the process.

This plan, created in collaboration with a diverse group of district staff (administrators and teachers) and community members, will guide work and progress within the district for the next several years. The new plan builds on success from major district initiatives, including a new school campus and other key initiatives planned or already underway in the “Greenon Knights” community.

The core team
The design group mapped out a timeline for moving forward, inviting a large and diverse group of more than 40 administrators, teachers, staff, school volunteers, parents, and community members to join them as the strategic plan took shape. The first of four core team meetings took place on May 31, 2022. All four core team meetings were focused on what it meant to be a “Greenon Knight” from many different perspectives.

Developing the plan
The process involving the core team moved forward to build a structure for the strategic plan and a foundation to insure alignment of current and future work within the district. The plan includes vision and mission statements, core values and five district-wide goals. These broad goals will serve as the district’s governance pillars. All present and future work within the district will tie directly to one or more of these key targeted areas, ensuring consistent focus and forward momentum.

Implementing the plan
The district looks forward to conceiving, planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating a wide variety of initiatives – big and small – across all goals over the next three-to-five years. Each goal area has a committee of staff and administration leading the action steps Progress will be reported at board of education meetings, through district social media posts, and at special events.

All work within the district will align to one or more of these broad goal areas. Each is accompanied by a goal statement, defining expected outcomes. A committee, comprised of staff and led by an administrator, has been created to assist in creating and executing action steps.
